Heroine Anthem: The Elect of Wassernixie

Plenty of ADD for the kids

Heroine Anthem is a popular series of Chinese RPGs with its first part released in May of 2002. The game boasts some of the most impressive 2D graphics of any game to date with a brilliant and diverse musical soundtrack.

The story follows a young girl, Edda, who drowned at sea while trying to save a young boy during a sea serpent attack on the slave ship they were aboard. She was saved by a mermaid prince who cast a spell on her to turn her into a mermaid intending to make her his queen.

In misery, Edda fled the palace with Bedin, a lobster, who was sneaking around her quarters, to go find a sea witch who could break the spell and return her to human form. But before that could happen, a quest led her to discover something that would changer her destiny–Ragnarok is on its way and with it, the return of the Dark Ark of Noah to unleash the monsters trapped since the flood. Only the Trumpet of God, held by the mermaids, can stop it.

No child left behind.

But what about Edda’s ailing father and younger sister Liv, and her childhood friend, Hulen, all of whom are on the surface. How will Edda return to them? The first chapter of the story sees Edda on a quest from mermaid to woman.

The script for the game is a heavy 400KB of Traditional Chinese. I’ve been working at it as I study the language, but Lonely Knight and TechMaster have been gracious enough to help with translating some of the larger scripts in the game.

As of this update, the game is roughly 4 percent complete. If you read Chinese and would like to help with a few of the scripts, we could use your help. Just e-mail me and I’ll check my files and send you something none of us are working on yet.

All hacking work for the game is completed except expansion of the item structs.

If you would like to contribute fonts to the game, please download the tarball of proposed English fonts. It includes a folder of templates for your own font design.
